Question 1:
What are markets and how do they function?
Answer

Markets are places or systems where buyers and sellers exchange goods and services. They may be weekly markets, shops, malls or online platforms. Markets function through buying and selling, where sellers offer products and consumers choose and purchase them according to their needs, quality and price.

Question 2:
What is the role of markets in people’s lives?
Answer
Markets play an important role in people’s lives by providing a variety of goods and services needed for daily life. They connect producers and consumers, create employment and support economic activities. Markets also give consumers choices, allowing them to compare products, prices and quality before making purchases.

Question 3:
What role does the government play in markets?
Answer
The government regulates markets by making and enforcing laws to ensure fair trade and protect consumers. It sets standards for the quality and safety of certain goods and services, prevents unfair practices and checks false information. The government also provides public services and protects consumer rights.

Question 4:
How can consumers assess the quality of goods and services they purchase?
Answer
Consumers can assess quality by checking labels, expiry dates, ingredients, price and standard quality marks such as ISI, AGMARK and Hallmark, where applicable. They can compare products and read available information before purchasing. Bills and receipts should also be kept as proof for complaints or consumer protection.
