NCERT Solutions for Class 7 SST Chapter 6 The Age of Reorganisation

Question 1:
Why is the period that followed the Maurya empire sometimes called the ‘Age of Reorganisation’?
Answer
The period after the Maurya Empire is called the ‘Age of Reorganisation’ because political power was reorganised across different regions. Several new kingdoms and dynasties emerged, while older political structures changed. New rulers, trade networks, cultural influences and artistic traditions developed. These changes reshaped Indian society and politics, creating new centres of power and contributing to the development of regional cultures.

Question 2:
What were the values or principles that guided emperors of that period?
Answer
The emperors of this period were guided by values such as dharma, justice, generosity and respect for different traditions. They aimed to protect their people, maintain peace and support religious and cultural activities. Rulers also encouraged learning, art and trade. Their ideas of good governance were influenced by earlier traditions as well as the changing political and social conditions of the time.

Question 3:
How did foreign invaders assimilate into Indian society and contribute to cultural confluence?
Answer
Foreign groups such as the Indo-Greeks, Shakas, Kushanas and others gradually became part of Indian society. They adopted Indian languages, customs, religions and traditions while also introducing elements of their own cultures. Their interaction with Indian communities encouraged the exchange of ideas, art, architecture, trade and religious practices. This cultural mixing created a rich confluence of Indian and foreign traditions.
