Question 1:
What are the major types of landforms and their significance to life and culture?
स्थलरूपों के प्रमुख प्रकार कौन-से है और जीवन तथा संस्कृति के लिए इनका क्या महत्त्व है?
Answer

The major types of landforms are the mountains, the plateaus and the plains.
(i) Mountains: Mountains are the landforms that are much higher than the surrounding landscape. They can be recognised by a broad base, steep slopes and a narrow summit. Depending on their height, some mountains are covered with snow.
(ii) Plateaus: A plateaus is a landform that rises up from the surrounding land and has a more or less flat surface; some of its sides are often steep slopes. Tibetan Plateau is the largest and highest plateau in the world.
(iii) Plains: Plains are landforms that have an extensive flat or gently undulating surface. They do not have any large hills or deep valleys. They are generally not more than 300 metres above sea level.

स्थलरूपों के प्रमुख प्रकार पर्वत, पठार और मैदान है। 
(i) पर्वत: पर्वत वे स्थलरूप हैं जो आस-पास की भूभि से कुछ अधिक ऊँचे होते हैं। इन्हें चौड़े आधार, खड़ी ढलान और सँकरे  शिखर के रुप में पहचाना जा सकता है। कुछ पर्वत अपनी अधिक ऊँचाई के कारण हिम से ढँके होते हैं। 
(ii) पठार: पठार एक ऐसी स्थलाकृति है जो आस-पास की भूमि से उठी होती है और प्राय: इसकी सतह चपटी होती है। इसके कुछ पार्श्व सीधी ढलान वाले होते हैं। तिब्बत का पठार विश्व का सबसे बड़ा और ऊँचा पठार है। 
(iii) मैदान: मैदान ऐसी स्थलाकृति होती जिसका विस्तृत सपाट अथवा हल्का तरंगित धरातल होता है। उसमें कोई पहाड़ियाँ अथवा गहरी घाटियाँ नहीं पाई जाती हैं। सामान्यत: मैदान की ऊँचाई समुद्र तल से 300 मीटर से अधिक नहीं होती। 

Question 2:
What are the challenges and opportunities of life associated with each landform?
प्रत्येक स्थलरूप के साथ संबंधित जीवन जीवन की क्या चुनौतियाँ एवं अवसर है? 
Answer
(1) Mountains: Challenges include landslides, avalanches, harsh climate. Opportunities include tourism, terrace farming, and pilgrimages.
(2) Plateaus: Challenges include less fertile soil. Opportunities include mining, waterfalls, and tourism.
(3) Plains: Challenges include floods, overpopulation, and pollution. Opportunities include fertile agriculture, river navigation, and trade.

(1) पर्वत: चुनौतियों में भूस्खलन, हिमस्खलन, कठोर जलवायु शामिल हैं। अवसरों में पर्यटन, सीढ़ीदार खेती और तीर्थयात्राएँ शामिल हैं।
(2) पठार: चुनौतियों में कम उपजाऊ मिट्टी शामिल है। अवसरों में खनन, झरने और पर्यटन शामिल हैं।
(3) मैदान: चुनौतियों में बाढ़, अति जनसंख्या और प्रदूषण शामिल हैं। अवसरों में उपजाऊ कृषि, नदी नौवहन और व्यापार शामिल हैं।
