NCERT Solution of Class 6 SST Chapter 4 Timeline and Sources of History

1. How do we measure historical time?
Answer

We measure historical time in years, decades, and centuries. Historians often use specific dates like BCE (Before Common Era) and CE (Common Era) to record and compare events. Timelines help us arrange events in chronological order to understand the sequence and development of history.

Various sources like manuscripts, inscriptions, coins, monuments, tools, and remains of buildings help us understand how people lived in the past, their culture, economy, beliefs, and social life. These sources provide evidence of historical events, practices, and changes over time.

Answer
Early humans lived a nomadic life. They moved from place to place in search of food, water, and shelter. They hunted animals and gathered fruits. They used stone tools and lived in caves or temporary huts. Slowly, they learned to make fire, grow crops, and domesticate animals.
